High temperature at 3am - 111 or A&E? (update at bottom)

Posting this because I've just had the worst night and want to know what other people do.

My 7 month old woke at 3am burning up. Thermometer said 39.2. She'd been a bit grizzly all day but was feeding fine. I gave her a dose of baby paracetamol and she perked up a bit, but I didn't know if I was supposed to take her somewhere.

Ended up calling 111. They were good, asked loads of questions and said to keep an eye and see the GP in the morning unless certain things happened.

What's your rule of thumb? I panicked so much.

111 is exactly right for that kind of thing. They'll tell you if you need to go in. My rule is if she's floppy, hard to wake, has a rash that doesn't fade when you press a glass on it, is struggling to breathe, or isn't having wet nappies, I go straight to A&E or ring 999. Otherwise 111 first.

For what it's worth, my wife and I wrote the warning signs on a bit of paper and stuck it inside the kitchen cupboard. At 3am your brain doesn't work.

Also worth knowing that under 3 months the threshold is lower, any temperature of 38 or above you get seen. For older babies it's more about how they're behaving than the number on the thermometer.

Update: GP saw her this morning. Ear infection. Temperature's down and she's back to grabbing my hair and laughing. I'm going to do the cupboard list, that's a brilliant idea Adebayo.

Also worth noting the dose and the time you gave it on your phone. At 3am you won't remember whether it was two hours ago or four, and 111 will ask.
