Car seat question - when do you actually turn them forward-facing?

Bit of a dad question. Our son is 13 months and his legs are starting to look a bit squashed in his rear-facing seat. My father-in-law says we should turn him round now "because he's over one".

I've read online that you should keep them rear-facing as long as possible, but how long is that? Does it depend on the seat? I don't want to get this wrong.

Depends on the seat. If it's an i-Size seat, the rule is rear-facing until at least 15 months. Many go well beyond that. The squashed legs thing looks uncomfortable to adults but kids are bendy and it's not a safety issue.

Check the manual, it'll tell you the height and weight limits for rear-facing.

Our eldest was rear-facing until nearly 4. She'd sit cross-legged and was perfectly happy. Bonus, she couldn't kick the back of my seat.

Turns out it's i-Size and the manual says rear-facing until 105cm. So he's staying put. Will deal with father-in-law later. Thanks lads (and everyone).
