What happens to the Halloween sweet haul in your house?

Every year my two come home with an entire carrier bag of sweets each. Every year I make up a rule on the spot, and every year it's different and they argue it.

This year I want a plan before Saturday. Do you let them go wild for one night? Ration it? Swap it for something? I'm not anti-sugar, I just don't want three weeks of negotiating over gummy sweets at breakfast.

Free for all on the night, then two a day after school until it's gone. That's it. Works because there's a rule and it isn't me deciding each time.

We do a 'sweet swap' - they can trade the bag in for a small toy or a trip out. My 7 year old chose the toy without blinking. My 4 year old would rather die than give up the sweets.

Don't overthink it. Ours eat a load on the night, feel a bit sick, then forget about the rest. The bag gets found in February. Brush teeth well, move on.

If you've got a little one with allergies, go through the bag before they get into it. Some of the mini ones don't list everything on each wrapper. Learned the hard way with nuts.

Went with Bex's rule this year. Free for all on Saturday night (one of them was sick, the other one wasn't), two a day after. It's now Thursday and the arguments have reduced by about 80%. Sticking with it.
