Friend's parents let them watch 15 and 18 films - do I say something?

My son (11) has a close friend whose parents are lovely but very relaxed. He came back from a playdate having watched a horror film that's an 18. He was quite freaked out and had trouble sleeping for a few nights.

I don't want to ruin the friendship or come across as preachy. Do I say something to the parents, or just tell my son he can come home if he's uncomfortable?

I'd say something, lightly. "He's a bit of a scaredy cat with horror, could they stick to 12s when he's over?" Making it about your kid rather than their parenting takes the sting out.

Different households have different rules, that's life. But I agree with Caitlin, framing it around your son is the way.

Also worth talking to your son about saying "I don't want to watch this" himself. That's a skill he'll need for the next ten years for much bigger things than films.

Honestly the other parents might not have realised it was an 18. My mate put something on for his kids thinking it was a 12, half an hour in it very much wasn't.

Took Caitlin's approach. Mum was mortified, said her older son had put it on and they hadn't checked. All fine and they're having him over this weekend - with a Pixar film this time.
