Stepdad to a 12 year old here. He's a good lad and we get on well, but I understand about half of what he says now.

Yesterday he told me my dinner was "lowkey bussin" and then that his mate was "giving NPC" and something about "aura points". I want to keep up without being the cringe adult who tries to use it. Is there a way to learn it without embarrassing him?

"bussin" is good, he paid you a compliment! NPC is someone who's a bit boring or just goes along with things. Aura is basically how cool someone is, you lose aura points for doing something embarrassing. You lose many aura points by asking about aura points, sorry

some of it is properly funny once you get it. "6 7" nearly broke me though. i have asked three children and nobody can tell me what it means. i think that's the point

Asked him to teach me tonight. He spent 20 minutes explaining things very patiently and then told me I was "cooked". Pretty sure that's affectionate.
