I'm a stay at home dad, two kids, 2 and 4. Rainy Tuesdays I take them to soft play and I honestly can't decide whether it's the best or worst invention in human history.
Pros: they run off energy, I drink a coffee. Cons: the noise, the smell, the inevitable sock loss, the big kid going down the slide head first at the toddlers, and catching every virus in south London.
Where do you land?
Hell. But it's a hell I keep going back to. Like a toxic relationship.
Heaven if you go first thing on a weekday in term time. Hell on a Saturday afternoon or anytime in the holidays. Timing is everything.
The coffee is always terrible and somehow I always drink two.
Heaven for the kids, purgatory for me. I go in the frame with my 2 year old so I'm basically doing an obstacle course in my socks.
@WoodGreenWendy the climbing through the tunnel with a toddler while 6 year olds stampede past. I know it well.
Hot tip: bring spare socks for you AND them. You'll lose one.
Every time I go I come home with a cold. Every time. My immune system has given up.
We've swapped soft play for a trampoline session once a month. More expensive but they're completely wiped out after an hour.
Okay the verdict seems to be: hell, but useful hell. Off we go again on Tuesday. Bringing spare socks.
