Nursery open day this Saturday - what should I actually be looking at?

We have three nursery open days lined up for my daughter who is 14 months, two in Leytonstone and one near my work in Stratford. I have never done this before and I feel like I will just walk in, see nice paintings on the wall and say yes.

What are the questions you wish you asked? And what are the things that you only notice if you know to look?

From someone who has done a lot of pickups at a lot of nurseries: watch the staff, not the room. Are they down on the floor with the children or standing chatting by the door? Do they know the kids' names when they talk to them?

Ask how long the key workers have been there. High turnover is the thing that upsets little ones most.

Ask what a normal day looks like and then ask to come back at a random time on a normal day. Open days are performances. A good nursery won't mind you popping in on a Tuesday morning.

Practical stuff that caught me out:

What are the fees for the bank holidays and the closure week at Christmas (some charge, some don't)

Do they provide nappies and food or do you

How they handle the funded hours - is there a consumables charge on top

What's the late pickup fee. Ours is £1 a minute and believe me the Central line has cost me
