Back on Monday after 11 months. Settling at nursery has been ok-ish, he still cries at drop off but stops within a few minutes according to the staff.
I am in bits. I keep crying in the shower. I don't even know if I want to go back. I have no idea what I'm supposed to wear either, nothing fits.
Tell me it gets easier?
It does. The first two weeks were awful for me. By week four I was enjoying drinking a hot coffee on the train and having adult conversations. You're allowed to feel both sad and a bit relieved.
Buy one or two things that fit now. Trying to squeeze into pre-baby trousers on day one is a special kind of misery.
Ask if you can do keeping-in-touch style shorter days, or start midweek. My first week was Wed-Fri and that helped a lot.
the crying stops quicker than they say usually. our nursery sent a photo after 20 mins on the first few days, ask yours if they can do that, it made a huge difference to me
I'll ask about the photo. And I'm going to Uniqlo this weekend for trousers that do up.
Also: it's ok if after a few months you decide it doesn't work and want to change something. Hours, job, set-up. Nothing has to be forever.
End of week one. He cried for 2 minutes on Thursday and ran in on Friday. I cried more than him. Thank you all for the kind words, honestly.
