Cycle 9 and the two week wait is turning me into someone I don't like

Nine cycles in. I know that's not long by some people's standards and I know plenty of you have been at this for years, so I'm almost embarrassed to post.

But the two week wait has started to do something to me. I google every twinge. I've caught myself being short with my sister because she announced on the family chat and I couldn't even type congratulations for an hour. I'm not proud of that.

How do you get through the waiting without it eating the whole fortnight? I'm 8dpo today and already counting.

Not embarrassed, please. Nine months of hoping and being disappointed is a lot whatever anyone else's number is.

What helped me was booking things into the second week on purpose. Cinema, a swim, dinner with a friend who didn't know we were trying. Gave my brain somewhere else to be for a few hours.

I deleted the period tracker app off my home screen and hid it in a folder. Sounds daft but I was opening it ten times a day like it would tell me something new.

The sister thing - you're allowed to feel that. You still sent the message, didn't you? That's the bit that counts.

Also worth saying, once you hit a year (or sooner if you're over 35) it's worth going back to the GP to ask about initial tests for both of you. Doesn't have to mean anything is wrong, it just stops the waiting feeling so open-ended.

Writing as the husband side of this. When my wife was in the wait I didn't know what to say so I said nothing, and she thought I didn't care. Maybe tell your partner exactly what helps you. For us it was walks after dinner, no talking about it unless she started.

Period arrived this morning, so that's that for this month. Weirdly less awful than I expected - I'd done the cinema thing and a long walk round Victoria Park on Sunday like you lot suggested and it did take the edge off.

GP appointment booked for the end of the month. Thank you, genuinely.
