15 year old son. Every morning I wake him at 7, then again at 7.10, 7.20, 7.30... by 7.45 I'm shouting and he's late for the bus. He goes to bed "at 10" but I hear him on his phone until gone midnight.

I'm worn out. Do I just let him be late and face the detention? Take the phone? Help.

Take the phone at night. Charges in your room. My 16 year old hated it for a week and then admitted she sleeps better. Teenagers' body clocks shift later, so they need every bit of sleep they can get.

I stopped waking my son. Bought him a proper loud alarm clock and told him it's his job now. He was late twice, got a detention, and then he started getting himself up. Natural consequences are wonderful.

Also worth seeing if there's anything else going on. When my daughter couldn't get up it turned out she was low in iron. Quick blood test at the GP and she was a different child within a couple of months.

Teenagers genuinely need 8-10 hours. Explain the science to him. Mine responded better to "your brain physically needs it" than "because I said so".

Phone charging in the kitchen from tonight, he's getting an alarm clock, and if he's late it's his problem. Wish me luck. I'll report back if I survive.
