MIL keeps giving our 10 month old food we've said no to

We've been really clear with my mother-in-law. No honey, no added salt, no chocolate yet. Not because we're precious but because baby is under one and the honey thing is actually a safety issue.

Picked him up on Thursday and she cheerfully told me he'd "loved" a bit of her biscuit and some honey on toast. When I said we'd asked her not to, she laughed and said "you all survived."

My husband says he'll talk to her but he's been saying that since the baby was born. She does two days of childcare a week which saves us a fortune, so I feel stuck. Do I just let it go?

Speaking as a grandma who looks after two of mine: no, don't let the honey one go. That's not a "things were different in our day" thing, that's a genuine risk under twelve months and she should hear it plainly.

The biscuit, I'd pick your battles. But I'd want my son or daughter-in-law to tell me straight. Most of us aren't trying to undermine you, we just slip into old habits.

Can your husband show her the NHS page on it? Sometimes it lands better coming from an outside source rather than "my wife says." My MIL ignored us for months and then the health visitor mentioned something at a visit and suddenly it was gospel.

The "you all survived" line drives me up the wall. Some didn't, that's literally why the guidance changed.

My mum was the same. I had to have the conversation myself in the end, not my wife, because it's my mum. It was awkward for about a week and then fine. Your husband needs to step up here.

Update: husband finally spoke to her on Sunday. Apparently she got a bit teary and said she felt like we didn't trust her. He held firm on the honey and salt, said the biscuit thing we can relax on after his first birthday. She's been fine since. Fingers crossed it lasts. Thank you all.
