Driving lessons at 17 in London - worth it?

My daughter turns 17 in January and wants to start driving lessons straight away. We live in Zone 3 and honestly barely use our car. Lessons are about £45 an hour and I've heard test waiting lists are ridiculous.

Is it worth doing now, or should she wait until she's at uni or moves somewhere she'll actually need it? Interested to hear what others decided.

My granddaughter waited and regretted it. Once you're at uni, then working, finding the time and money is so much harder. If she's keen and you can afford it, do it now while she has the time.

Test waiting times have been months in some London test centres. Book the theory test early and get on the practical test list as soon as she's eligible, then do the lessons around that.

honest view: we didn't bother with ours. zone 2, no car, she uses the tube and bikes everywhere. she's 22 now and still doesn't drive and has no plans to. london is weird like that

Thanks all. Theory test booked for February, lessons once a week from then. Also looking at a separate learner insurance policy rather than adding her to ours.

One thing I'd steer away from - the intensive one-week courses. My nephew did one, failed, and had spent nearly as much as a year of weekly lessons. Slow and steady seems to work better for most.
